Optogenetic investigation of the striatal inhibitory network in compulsive behaviours

We propose to perform studies in mice in one of the main regulatory system of striatal activity: the parvalbumin (PV) interneuronal network. Recent studies in humans and animal models suggest that striatal interneurons could be pivotal in the emergence of repetitive behaviors. To causally test the implication of striatal PV-interneurons in the different types of repetitive behaviors, we propose to use an optogenetic strategy to manipulate interneurons activity and either induce or rescue repetitive behaviors in wildtype vs SAPAP3-KO mice, a mouse model of compulsive behaviours.
