ENP PROCEDURES

GRADUATE PROGRAM RECRUITMENT

Information graduate program: staff.phdprogram[at]paris-neuroscience.com

The ENP graduate program is open to highly talented and motivated students who received their undergraduate training outside of France, irrespective of their original disciplines. Since 2010, students trained in France in Physics, Maths, Computer Science and Engineering can also apply.

The call for the ENP graduate program application is opened, and will be closed at the January 20th, 2012.

APPLICATION IS CLOSED

Only online application will be considered.

The call for application will be announced shortly on this webpage. It is open to students from various backgrounds who can demonstrate: - outstanding academic achievements & a strong interest in neuroscience, - a specific interest in the research carried out by the ENP or «Fondation Voir et Entendre» (FVE) laboratories.

The program offers two entry levels :

- students with Bachelor’s degree (Pre-PhD program).

- students with Master’s degree (PhD program).

Candidates with a Masters degree (M2) have to register to a Parisian university  ("Unité d'Enseignement Isolés" - UPMC, Paris Descartes...) and must start in parallel their lab rotation (see below). Registrations for students who need a visa is longer due to the administrative processes.

Candidates without a Masters degree (M2) have to register at the university in of one the following “Master 2” programs (they can start in parallel their lab-rotations) :

o Master of Integrative Biology and Physiology (BIP) at the UPMC

o Research Master in Cognitive Science (Cogmaster) at the Paris Descartes university

o European Master of Genetics at the Paris Diderot University

o Master Health and Biology at the Paris-Sud 11 University

NB/Time periods for online registration in Master programs at Paris universities start in April to June. Exact dates as well as registration procedures & administrative paper requirements depend on the university, and must be checked by the student. Administrative support for the registration at Paris universities is provided by the ENP staff.

The lab-rotation period offers to students a unique opportunity to develop and suggest their own PhD project in a neuroscience laboratory affiliated either with the ENP or the «Fondation Voir et Entendre» (FVE). Each rotation lasts normally three months, except for students with Bachelor degree (the first rotation lasts six months and counts for the «Master final» exam). A minimum of two lab rotations are mandatory before PhD registration.

Pre-selection of the applicants:
Application documents are scored independently by two members of the ENP panel

(ENP and FVE team leaders). Within one month after the deadline, the ENP panel pre-selects applicants for a phone interview. Within seven days after the last phone interview, selected candidates receive an email invitation for a presentation in Paris.

Interviews in Paris and selection:
The interviews in Paris take place within two months following the preselection.
Candidates receive email information describing the practical modalities. The ENP pays for transportation and accommodations.

Candidates present their curriculum, previous work, and motivation in a 10 - mn talk before the ENP panel. Followed by a 10 - mn discussion.
Selection: On the basis of the talks and the ensuing discussions the ENP panel selects prospective students to be admitted into the program. Results are communicated by email within a week.
