When Science meets Les Echos

Stanislas DEHAENE considered as one of the great specialists of the neurosciences (Cognitive psychologist and neuroscientist, professor at the Collège de France, holder of the Chair of experimental cognitive psychology, member of the Academy of Sciences, researcher at the NeuroSpin Center, appointed head of the new Scientific Council of french National Education, Ecole de Neurosciences de Paris’s team leader) and Darinka Trübutschek, graduate student at l'Ecole de Neurosciences de Paris in his team, are now quoted in the article « Artificial Intelligence : consciousness, are you there? » by journalist Remy Demichelis in the french economical newspaper « Les Echos » ( This article edited in the february 27 , 2018 issue of « Les Echos, section Sciences-Prospectives », is in particular refering to a recent review by Stanislas Dehaene, Hakwan Lau and Sid Kouider published in Science « What is consciousness, and could machines have it? » (Science. 2017 Oct 27;358(6362):486-492. doi: 10.1126/science.aan8871. Review, and Science. 2018: 26 Jan ; 359(6374) :400-2 doi: 10.1126/science.aar8639. Response). In this review, the authors indeed reviewed experimental data, ideas and believes on the challenging issue that could be summarized as « Is consciousness the privilege of real brains only, in contrast to deep-learning machines ? ».
