Maja studied membrane expansion during neuronal growth during her PhD. She contributed to an investigation of vesicular and target SNARE proteins on mouse phenotypes. Knock-out of the tetanus neurotoxin-insensitive vesicular-associated membrane protein (TI-VAMP) resulted in decreased brain weight, larger third ventricle volume, and higher anxiety.
