ENP alumna Ana Barbeito studied microglia and their recruitment during normal development and in neurodegenerative diseases. In her Journal of Neural Transmission article, she discusses the role of microglia in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She points out that microglia activation increases as the disease progresses and that microglia are also linked to toxic and neurotrophic factors. Check out the article for more information:
